James grew up in Arizona on a dairy farm and later moved to Mesa. Starting out he mostly did graphite photorealism. After moving to New York James did his apprenticeship at Bandit Studio in Brooklyn, 2020 under Bruno Levy. Daniel Snoeks later became a fundamental teacher in his progression and he now resides part time in Los Angeles.
